Greetings!

Welcome to The South Bronx Review,  a new print and online literary journal dedicated to publishing quality fiction and poetry. We had  been planning to go to press in Mid-October of 2011, but Hurricane Irene destroyed the home of editor Carl James Grindley, leaving him homeless for a couple of months and generally slowing everything down considerably. Our new goal is to have the first issue out by June. We apologize for the delay to those who have been kept in the lurch. We will be sending explanatory notes via submittable to everyone who has been gracious enough to show us his or her work.

But we’re going to need your help. So please send us your very best poetry and fiction. We’re open to all sorts of styles, though we prefer literary fiction and well-crafted poetry. We have no theme selected for our first issue, and we’re happy to read everything from Flash to 7,500 words. As far as poetry goes… the best way to tell what we like is to send us your greatest works.

Our editorial team is a group of writers from The City University of New York. We’ve joined forces to provide a new venue not only for New Yorkers, but open to anyone anywhere. All you have to do is value craft and imagination, hard work and inspiration. In the coming months we’ll be preparing our first issue, until then, we’ll be posting the very best of what we receive to this website.

We are interested in exploring the very broadest outlines of fiction and poetry, willing to read whatever you submit, but w’re probably going to be picky and mercurial in our tastes. Rest assured, every submission is read blind and is subject to a straight up vote by the editorial board.

Who do we like?

Right now, we love reading: Louise Erdrich, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, Maggie Nelson, Ted Hughes, Jennifer Egan, Milorad Pavić, Haruki Murakami, Elizabeth Colen, Jorge Luis Borges, Anne Carson, Wells Tower, Italo Calvino, Robert Desnos, Ana Bozicevic, Federico García Lorca, Roberto Bolano, Wislawa Szymborska, Sam Lypsyte, Tracy K. Smith, Jeni Olin.
